K.H.M.H. doctors & Lands Commissioner to meet Monday

Story PictureThe unrest surrounding the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital seems to have been subdued for the time being as part of ‘good faith’ for the week of negotiations between the doctors and management. Work at the hospital has resumed as normal as possible, and the go-slow has been discontinued. This is significant considering yesterday’s press conference during which the board addressed the highly publicized issues surrounding management of the hospital and hurled allegations of their own at the doctors. Actually, disparaging remarks have been thrown around on the part of both the Union and the K.H.M.H. board, making a resolution difficult to achieve. However, a meeting with the entire union and the Labour Commissioner is scheduled for Monday morning, and another meeting between the Union and the Board is set for Monday afternoon. Given the recent state of affairs, whether or not this meeting will take place is yet to be seen. At the root of much of the conflict is the alleged mismanagement of the hospital’s finances. A week-long investigation sanctioned by the Prime Minister into the controversy was scheduled to be completed today and a report handed in to his office. However, when News Five contacted the Prime Minister’s office earlier this afternoon, the report had not yet been delivered.
