B.M.D.U. critical of utensils used at K.H.M.H.
There is no end to the litany of concerns and the B.M.D.U. is also critical of the state of the utensils they have to work with. Another issue that propped up was the price paid for recent renovations near the K.H.M.H. Emergency Unit.
Dr. John Sosa, President, B.M.D.U.
“We have an issue with the way an area in front of the Emergency Room—in fact more to the side—was built in the sense of the price they paid for it. We know we don’t have the proof but there were two prices for this piece of building. The higher price—in a sense bill because there was no tender for it—was awarded this contract. But when they were building it they put the tiles on a wall that was not good and the thing starts to fall down and they did it over so it cost twice as much. And I don’t really want to quote you an exact price but I think it would run around sixty thousand dollars right. Just recently and we have the pictures of the old one that was fixed up and I’m not sure—it possibly may have cost that totally above board but it attracts our attention.”
Dr. Beatrice Thompson, Secretary, B.M.D.U.
“This is the equipment that surgeons and gynaecologists work with at the operating room. This is what they do the surgeries with and if you notice that doesn’t join together and it slips and the surgeon has trouble and that’s what at night they rail up and the nurse they stone the instrument and seh I can’t work wid this. What the nurse can do? I can’t do anything else, I only have this to give you. If you see these how they look, that is what they work with. They look rusty. Do you see how that looks? That’s supposed to be stainless steal, no rust on it. They mount a blade on that and they cut your belly or wherever they are going to cut. So that is what the surgeons and the gynaecologists work with.”
The K.H.M.H. relies heavily on donations of equipment and supplies. According to the doctors, no recent purchase of equipment or surgical supplies have been made.
