No Word As Yet on Independent Investigation of Shooting Death in Chiquibul
The report from the O.A.S. on the shooting death of Julio Rene Alvarado Ruano is highly anticipated and up to news time, the C.E.O. in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lawrence Sylvestre told News Five that he is also awaiting the report. The Government, in a release on Monday, said that an independent report has been submitted to the O.A.S. Secretary General by the investigators from the U.S. and Mexico. The conclusions of the investigation has not been confirmed, but there are indications that investigators were able to ascertain that the B.D.F. soldiers did not shoot at the thirteen year old Guatemalan minor since the bullets did not match those of the B.D.F. weapons. Commander, Brigadier General David Jones told us today that the report will not be available until Thursday. The O.A.S., however, today released a photograph of a scheduled meeting between Guatemala and Belize at the O.A.S. Headquarters in Washington with the Group of Friends. That meeting is to raise funds for the O.A.S. office within the Adjacency Zone. But according to the government release, the Group of Friends will also be apprised of the findings of the investigation.
