Doctors demand removal of Board Chairman/Dir. of Finance…
The ongoing impasse between the Belize Medical and Dental Union and management at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is one week old and has now reached boiling point. And after another day of meetings there is still no cure in sight to the crisis. News Five has confirmed that a final meeting will be held tonight in anticipation of a press conference early Wednesday morning. Doctors were hesitant to speak because of the delicate state of negotiations.
Word to News Five from one member of the Union’s Executive is that the doctors still maintain strong suspicions over procurements of medical supplies, despite rebuttals from the hospital. The doctors, who number over fifty, are demanding that the hospital board’s Chairman, Doctor Ricardo Fabro and Director of Finance, Carlos Perrera, be removed immediately and are calling for an independent audit. One of their conditions, the reinstatement of Dr. Khalid Ghazy as the Chief of Staff has already been met but the situation remains fluid. News Five has also learnt that the doctors are ruling out another go slow.
