DiCaprio’s Blackadore Caye Looking Good!
British newspaper The Telegraph, among other international media sources, has shown renderings of the plans for actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s planned eco-tourism report on Blacakdore Caye, west of San Pedro. With the Environmental Impact Assessment approved and Environmental Compliance Plan under review, plans to finish the project by 2018 are closer to being a reality. The Blackadore Development Group has trumpeted its plans to ensure construction will have only a minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem. It plans to, according to the Telegraph, replant mangrove, replace invasive species with native species and the creation of additional armature for reef and fish breeding. Over half of the island will serve as a protected wildlife preserve; all power used will be sourced from renewable energy; and water will be provided through rainwater collection and onsite water treatment. Thirty-six resort bungalows and a further thirty-six estate villas will be available exclusively following the scrapping of any overwater structures following design consultations with local businesses and communities. The Telegraph notes that Belize already hosts film director Francis Ford Coppola’s Turtle Inn resort complete with its own private island; actor Brad Pitt and footballer Cristiano Ronaldo have attached their names to properties in Croatia and Portugal, respectively.
