David Nanes Schnitzer Finally Captured
David Nanes Schntizer who skipped bail in Belize after he was caught with a trove of illegal Belizean documents, including a passport, is back in police custody, but in Mexico. The Mexican citizen was accused of defrauding thousands of investors of at least forty-two million dollars in a ponzi scheme valued at seven billion dollars. Newspaper accounts in Mexico say that Nanes was detained late last week at Mexico City’s International Airport, where he had landed from Havana, Cuba using a different name. Nanes had been living in San Pedro for some time; he was caught in November 2015 with a fake ID which led police to uncover other illegal documents in his possession. These included a permanent resident card, social security card and a voter’s ID. But he was only charged for the fake ID and offered bail of ten thousand dollars. This is when he fled Belize. But tonight, Nanes is being held at the Reclusio Sur in Mexico.
