I.D.B. Taps Lisa Shoman for Administrative Tribunal…

A Belizean attorney is moving up to a senior post at the Inter-American Development Bank. Senior Counsel Lisa Shoman has been appointed to a six-year term as a sitting judge for the Inter-American Development Bank.  She joins six other adjudicators on the organization’s administrative tribunal which is tasked with dealing with employment matters.  The IDB is the largest source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean.  It supports economic and social development, as well as regional integration by lending to governments and government agencies, as well as state-owned corporations.  With a staff of just about two thousand employees, Shoman will have her hands full dealing with cases pertaining to their service.  The new post will see her traveling to and from I.D.B.’s headquarters in Washington as of July first.

“It’s a great honor.  The judges of the administrative tribunal of the Inter-American Development Bank sit to consider cases from the IDB involving staff and other issues having to do with employment at the Inter-American Development Bank.  So it’s the entire IDB system, not just the people working in Washington.  And they have had some very high-powered people, including Madam Justice Desiree Bernard from Guyana.  So it was a great honor to me to be short listed as one of the possible candidates and on Monday I was notified that I have been approved by the board and that my appointment as a judge will run from the first of July until six years.  So yeah, that’s the appointment.”
