New cases of Influenza A H1N1 in Neighbouring countries

Story PictureTurning to the Influenza A H1N1, Mexican authorities say that there has been an increase in cases of the virus in neighboring Chetumal, Quintana Roo. And while that may be the case, the Mexican embassy has confirmed that since last week there have not been any new confirmed cases. According to the embassy, one hundred and thirty-three new samples from recent cases of interests have been sent for testing. News Five contacted Director of Health Services, Dr. Michael Pitts, who said that the ministry is maintaining surveillance at health clinics countrywide.

It is known that there are confirmed cases of the flu in five other Caribbean countries including the Bahamas, Cayman, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. There are also reports of the death of a pregnant seventeen year old girl in Dominican Republic who died after she contracted the virus. The M.O.H. advises the public to continue practicing the necessary precautionary measures for the prevention and control of the virus.
