New Ambassador from Guatemala to Belize

There will be a new Guatemalan Ambassador to Belize.  While that individual has not been named officially, Guatemala is already in talks with a replacement for Manuel Estuardo Roldan Barillas. Earlier this year, we reported that Barillas, Guatemala’s ambassador to Belize, was recalled for quote, consultations with his bosses. It was never clear why he was recalled, but we do know that the appointment of a new ambassador is looming.

“The reason you haven’t heard anything major is because generally it has been positive. It was unfortunate that the Ambassador was recalled and never returned. I understand now that he is being posted to some European country, so he has already been removed as Ambassador to Belize and they are currently looking at appointing somebody new to Belize. They have not yet, as far as I can say, formally name that person but I understand that they have somebody in mind already. In fact, I understand that they have been visiting Belize generally. And we have been talking constructively whenever we have situations that happen along the border we tend to deal with it in dispatch and in a joint manner, together, along with the Ministry of Guatemala, our Foreign Ministry and the O.A.S.  And that is why you haven’t heard from them because normally you only hear about bad news and you don’t to report good news. So, I can say that things are better than they were last year and I look forward to it further improving.”
