C.C.J.’s President, Sir Dennis Byron, set to retire

But the highest court, the Caribbean Court of Justice headquartered in Trinidad and Tobago announced the imminent retiring of Sir Dennis Bryon, having reached his seventh non-renewable year at the helm of the CCJ. According to a release, the process to appoint his successor is already in train and regional and international stakeholders have so been informed.   The justice says that “it has been an honour to serve the region as the President of the CCJ. I am particularly proud of what has been accomplished by the Judges and the rest of the Court’s team during my tenure. It is now time for me to take on other challenges but I will look back at the six years I have spent at the Court, with pride and with a great deal of fondness.”   Sir Byron has been to Belize on two occasions as one of four jurisdictions subscribing to the CCJ as its final court of appeal. More recently this year, Justice Denys Barrow became the first Belizean to join the bench of the CCJ.  The Regional Judicial and Legal Services Commission is responsible for the recruitment of the next President.
