School to Stay Open Despite Pink Eye Threat

On Thursday, News Five received information that a school in Ladyville had been affected by the ongoing outbreak of conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye.” The viral or bacterial infection causes severe discomfort and is known to spread rapidly, forcing victims to keep away from contact with others. The Ladyville S.D.A. primary school raised the issue with parents as to how best to protect their children, but it was misinterpreted, according to Principal Ildefonso Acosta, to mean that the school would close down for at least a week. He told us today that this is not so.

“The only thing I can tell you we have normal classes, we are not postponing anything for the pink eye; we have put everything in place and so we are carrying on as normal.”

“So no classes are being canceled or postponed or anything like that?”

Ildefonso Acosta

“No; and none will be canceled or postponed. We will carry on as normal.”

“So how is it that people got that confused, because it sounded as if the whole school, all the students there had pink eye?”

Ildefonso Acosta

“It’s that some people read the note and misinterpreted the note; it was not the parents, it was just one parent, apparently. Nobody has come and see me with regard to that, because I believe the note was clear enough.”
