Torch run kicks off AIDS Week
Worlds AIDS Week kicked off–quite literally–on Sunday with a torch run from Belmopan to Belize City. The volunteer joggers finished up at Rogers Stadium where the week of activities was officially opened by coordinator of the National AIDS Commission, Martha Carrillo. A number of events are scheduled, including the first ever National Conference on AIDS on Thursday. The week ends on Sunday, which is observed as World AIDS Day. The slogan for this year’s observance is “Live and Let Live”, with the campaign focussing on the elimination of the stigma and discrimination that’s all too often attached to victims of AIDS and their families.
