G.O.B. to Donate $100,000 to Guatemala for Volcano Relief
Guatemala was recently hit by the Volcan de Fuego that has caused the deaths of as many as one hundred and fourteen persons and untold damages to property and infrastructure. In a show of solidarity, the government has announced that it is making a financial contribution of one hundred thousand Belize dollars to our neighbour. Already, Belizeans through non-government organizations as well as the churches have been sending relief supplies. As the pictures show, on June thirteenth, in coordination with the Guatemalan Embassy, supplies were transferred to Guatemala. The Guatemalan government says it is now in the reconstruction phase and will build houses for those left homeless. It has launched an appeal to raise ten million U.S. dollars for the construction of one thousand houses.
