Ministry of Health Looking Elsewhere for Cheaper Dialysis Treatment

The Ministry of Health is currently spending two million dollars to assist persons with renal failure. The assistance comes in the form of dialysis treatment which is costly and unaffordable for most patients. The money is currently covering thirty patients, but the ministry is in discussion with a third party who is willing to provide dialysis treatment at a significantly lower cost.  According to Minister of Health, Pablo Marin, the new but unnamed partner is offering to provide dialysis treatment at a cost of two hundred and twenty dollars per session. The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital charges six hundred dollars, while at the La Loma Luz in Cayo it is three hundred dollars. It is a very attractive deal for the ministry, but Minister Marin told News Five on Monday that he will first meet with officials of La Loma Luz Hospital this week and K.H.M.H. next week to discuss the price per dialysis.

“We have a lot of patients out there that are in need of dialysis. They can’t afford the dialysis. They are only taking one dialysis for week and they need three. It is very critical for them. We have about 30 patients right now in the Ministry working with Loma Luz and KHMH. We are paying everything but at the moment there is another person who wants to work with us that will cost us two hundred and twenty dollars per dialysis. At the moment, I know that KHMH is charging me six hundred dollars per dialysis; Loma Luz is charging me like three hundred dollars per dialysis. I think that definitely that is an outrage for me. I am sitting down with them tomorrow, with Loma Luz, sit down with KHMH and I hope that this month I can finalize it and I will be able to put in more patients in the system.”

If the price is reduced to about two hundred dollars per treatment, the ministry will be able to assist sixty patients. News Five has confirmed with Minister Marin that the new provider is Dialisis de Honduras.
