Brodies Set to Lose $90,000 in Medication Due to Importation Regulation

As the issue over the importation of pharmaceuticals continues to unfold, Brodies and Company Limited, which has one of the biggest pharmacies, says that it stands to lose ninety thousand dollars in medicines.  This is because G.O.B. has denied entry to a shipment of medication that was ordered from Ziotis Company back in 2017, but does not meet the new requirements. According to Brodies, it informed the Ministry of Health in May of this year that the shipment was in transit, saying that for years they have been importing Turkish medication without negative comments from customers.  The importation of meds has become cumbersome because the labels have to be in English or Spanish. Well, Brodies interpreted the law to mean that once an English or Spanish label is affixed to the medication, it would be in compliance, but recently Government has refused this practice.   On Tuesday, the Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero claims that the imported drugs were not corresponding with the invoices. Brodies also says that they have accepted discrepancies found in the shipment at the airport and agreed to have government withhold those medications and offered to re-label all the medication in English.  The company also alleges that there is a pharmaceutical company with offices in Belmopan that is being allowed to re-label and sell the same Turkish medications.
