Chetumal Authorities Enforce Insurance Regulation on Belizeans
The flow of traffic has slowed down significantly at the northern border since reports of a mandatory private vehicle insurance surfaced these past few weeks. News Five understands that authorities on that side of the border have begun enforcing regulations which require Belizeans to buy Mexican insurance if they want to drive their private vehicle in the State of Quintana Roo legally. The enforcement of this regulation has not only caused traffic to slow down, but also cross-border trade. We understand that businessmen on both sides have complained. The insurance can be bought on the Mexican side at twelve dollars and fifty cents for twelve hours and twenty-five dollars for an entire twenty-four hours. However, there seems to be confusion among Belizeans who have complained that they have not always paid the insurance fee. We will keep following this story.
