New Orleans hospital helps Belize

Story Picture
Since the Belize City Council established a Sister City relationship with New Orleans two years ago, CITCO has received around two million dollars worth of medical supplies and treatment from that city’s International Hospital for Children. On Wednesday, through the efforts of Belize’s Honorary Consul in Louisiana, Jean Benard, I.H.C. sent another shipment of medicines and supplies. Deputy Mayor, Yasmin Shoman says the council is grateful for the donations.

“The majority of these medical supplies that we received yesterday will be going down to Dr. Peter Allen in Independence, for the new clinic that International Hospital for Children helped to build. They also received an ambulance free of cost through this same group, through the efforts of Mrs. Benard. If you will recall a couple years ago, the actor Dennis Quaid made a visit to Belize and he was instrumental in all of these donations because he sits on the board of International Hospital for Children. And that is why we have had a very good relation. Incidentally, we hold Sister City relations with six cities and the biggest Sister City relation currently is with New Orleans. That’s why constantly every month you’ll notice we get a lot of items donated into Belize.”

The medical supplies include nebulisers, antibiotics, insulin kits, pre-natal vitamins, surgical gloves, syringes and oxygen tubing.
