Regardless of a ‘No’ Vote, Belizean Voters are Still Patriotic
The Prime Minister’s campaign has been to promote a ‘yes’ vote come April tenth. It is also the position of former foreign minister Lisa Shoman, who shared the stage with him at the press conference and has also become a lawyer for the government. Today’s event was a push to convince the electorate to support a yes. But what if an overwhelming majority of the electorate votes against going to the I.C.J.? Would that make them any less patriotic? The PM took an interesting position, acknowledging all voters as patriotic regardless of their individual positions.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“The international community is convinced that we cannot lose, but I want to end by making the point again, for those Belizeans who weigh everything in the balance and decide to vote no. That is your right, we absolutely will respect that. I would wish it to be otherwise but it will not make you any less of a patriot than those who vote yes. Thank you.”
