Municipalities Receive Exercising Equipment for Public Use

The Ministry of Health wants you to live a healthy lifestyle by not only eating healthy but exercising as well. Minister of Health Pablo Marin on Tuesday handed over exercising equipment to five municipalities with the aim to encourage the public to become more health conscious. The donation comes courtesy of the Government of Belize and the Embassy of Taiwan at a cost of over twenty thousand U.S. dollars. Hipolito Novelo reports.

In an effort to encourage the public to live a healthy lifestyle, the Ministry of Health with financial assistance from the Embassy of Taiwan handed over exercise equipment to five municipalities. The equipment is valued at around twenty-two thousand US dollars. Health Minister, Pablo Marin, says it is something he has been working on for the past few months.

“It is something that I have been mentioning months ago. That I continue to work a healthy lifestyle, to promoting healthy people and telling people to not drink soft and eat health. The best thing is to do some exercise.”

The machines were handed over to the Mayors of Punta Gorda, Santa Elena/San Ignacio, Belmopan, and San Pedro. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sports, Patrick Faber received a set to be placed at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex for the public’s use, free of cost.

“In the city, a lot of working out goes on; people try to get fit there. That’s a real buzz of activities in the mornings and also in the evenings. So this is going to be a great addition. I believe that this is a wonderful thing for us to have it all over the country.  We do emphasize the need for exercise and for people to live a healthy lifestyle. That means eating right but also doing exercise. This encourages people. You do not have to pay a fee to go to the gym. You do not have to have a membership. All you need to do is turn up in an outdoor public space and you give it all you got.”
