New health care facility opens for N.H.I.

Story Picture
On Saturday one of the four health care providers under the southside N.H.I. pilot project was officially inaugurated. The Integral Health Clinic on the corner of Curasow and Gibnut Street was opened for inspection and guest of honour, Prime Minister Said Musa, used the opportunity to remind his audience that the best medicine is the preventative kind.

Prime Minister Said Musa

“We have serious problems with what we call high blood pressure, blood pressure, diabetes, all these things. And a lot of these things can be dealt with at very limited resources being spent on them if we do it in time. If we take the preventative measures, if we get the proper advice from doctors, if the doctors are here, right here in the community, as they will be here now in the Collet Division, giving that advice on a daily basis about our diet, about out lifestyles. This is how you get proper health care in a very affordable way.”

According to the Prime Minister, Belizeans spend eighty million dollars a year on health care. Of that amount, twenty million is spent abroad. The other southside primary health care providers under the N.H.I. pilot project are Belize Medical Associates, Matron Robert’s Health Centre and the Belize Family Life Association.
