Only Two Deaths from Dengue Fever says MOH
While the numbers in Belize and Toledo districts are fairly low, they may be the result of an under-reporting of cases. Despite the number of hospitalizations across the country, the death toll has been very minimal.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“We don’t seem to have high numbers in the Toledo District and in Belize we are not seeing it but we are not so sure if they are under-reporting. So it’s primarily in those four districts where our efforts are going to be concentrated on in terms of scaling up further responses. It doesn’t mean that we are not doing anything in Belize and Toledo, but that’s where the further scale of response is going to be.”

“Can you confirm perhaps the number of cases where persons have succumbed to this illness?”
Dr. Marvin Manzanero
“Well we, in the queries we had up until Saturday three point two percent of our cases were considered or classified as severe dengue which means the more severe form of dengue where people have to be hospitalized for a couple days. Some people have required ICU care at the Karl Heusner and we have to date two females who clinically their demise seemed to have been the result of dengue.”
