Bitcoin Businessman on Trial in the U.S. owns property in Belize
Fraudsters have made Belize their haven. Even as the fallout from the Lev Dermen saga continues, new reports in the U.S. say a bitcoin businessman from Bath, Ohio, U.S.A. was indicted on Tuesday for conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and transmitting money without a license. He is identified as Larry Dean Harmon, who owns property in Belize. According to the news reports, the properties of Harmon in the U.S. and Belize were searched. Three hundred million dollars in crypto-currency was used by customers to male illegal purchases from the dark net marketplace. Harmon reportedly advertised the services he offered through his company, Alpha Bay, through an operation called Helix, which was known for its illegal activity that included drug deals and much more. If convicted, Harmon could face up to seventeen years in jail.
