Raccoon Inside the Emergency Room of the K.H.M.H.
First it was rats found inside an incubator of the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan and today, it was a huge raccoon that made itself into the emergency ward of the K.H.M.H. Several videos have been circulating on social media showing security personnel at the national referral hospital trying to extract the animal from the building. As this played out, patients are seen on their beds bearing witness to the efforts to get the raccoon out of the ER. News Five spoke via phone today with the son of one of those patients, who said that the unwelcome visitor fell from the ceiling and onto his mother’s bed. Luckily she was asleep at the time and he was able to chase it away. Andre Moguel says that the incident is not to be taken lightly because the animal could have bitten or clawed patients inside the medical facility.
On the Phone: Andre Moguel, Son of Patient
“I was sitting there taking care of my mom cause she was admitted and I just heard a noise in the ceiling. And when I notice the ceiling was coming down and the raccoon was trying to hold on and because of the size and the weight, it fell on top of the night table and ran onto the bed where my mom was. And luckily I was there because she was asleep and I just reacted and bax him off the bed. As you see on the photos, the mud on the pillow case was just inches away from my mother and then it ran outside. But I neva follow it or anything and then I just hear a commotion outside and I know there are videos that they had problems to get it out of the hospital. But it was out of the ceiling right above where my mom was.”

“Sir the concern about this cause raccoon in the hospital?”
On the Phone: Andre Moguel
“Well it is very concerning because those raccoons are very vicious animals. If I probably wasn’t there, it probably would have run on top of my mom and they have sharp and long claws and their teeth. So if one raccoon that size could get in there, many other things—rats and other rodents and maybe even snakes. So it is very concerning.”

“Sir has the hospital told you guys anything?”
On the Phone: Andre Moguel
“Absolutely nothing. All the nurses that were on duty did a very nice job and quickly got an attendant and relocated my mother to the next side of the room.”
