COVID-19 Patient Isolation Unit Will Remain at K.H.M.H.

Dean Barrow

Prime Minister Dean Barrow during a press conference today confirmed to the country and frontline healthcare workers that the isolation unit will remain inside the walls of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  The K.H.M.H.A. Workers Union expressed concerns that having the isolation at the national referral hospital is not only putting frontline healthcare workers at risk, but also the hospital. Prime Minister Dean Barrow says that PAHO report indicates that the unit is properly placed.

“The last report I had from the Ministry of Health team is that PAHO has cleared that unit as being properly the place for critical care with perhaps one reservation as to something that needs to be addressed. When we met with Doctors Musa and Coye this morning, there was not—as I understood it—any suggestion that the K.H.M.H. can’t serve as the critical care unit of last resort. I know that the hospital workers had and no doubt still have their reservation but as I understand it the intention is to proceed with the K.H.M.H. as the critical care unit of last resort.”
