Diabetes clinics to be held Tuesday

Story Picture
The prevalence of diabetes and the many complications associated with the disease will be examined on Tuesday at free clinics in observance of World Diabetes Day. The day’s theme is “Diabetes and Lifestyle in the New Millennium.” Secretary-Treasurer of the Belize Diabetes Association, Katherine Santos, says that the day helps raise public awareness.

Katherine Santos, Secretary Treasurer, Bze. Diabetes Assoc.

“The clinic is very important because there might be a lot of people walking around here in Belize or internationally that don’t know they have diabetes and if you get your blood checked you can start to look for the signs. It’s good to get your blood checked so that you can know if you have it or not. If you take care of yourself, once you know you have it, it’s no problem.”

“Tomorrow there will be doctors at each site. There will be information taking. If there’s a note that you seem to be in trouble you will get counselling to follow up where you can go from there.”

In Belize City clinics will be held at the Save-U parking lot and in front of the Belize Bank. In Orange Walk at the hospital grounds, Belmopan at the Social Security grounds, San Ignacio at Coronation Park and in Dangriga at Courts.
