Chet’s COVID Cases

In the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, seven hundred and eleven persons tested positive for COVID-19 as of today.  In the neighboring subdivision of Othon P. Blanco, of which Chetumal is a part of, seventeen persons have tested positive for the deadly disease. Four persons have died while seven persons have recovered.  Here in Belize, borders are closed and the state of emergency remains in effect for an additional sixty days. But according to Doctor Marvin Manzanero, there is a high-risk case in Corozal linked to a person who illegally crossed the border into Chetumal.

“The overall Quintana Roo State is following the same patterns the rest of Mexico which is increasing numbers and they are not expected to peak unit the end of May. That is important that we understand that so people should not be in a hurry to get across the border. That is another headache that we need to highlight. We are noticing that people are still either trying to smuggle themselves into Chetumal or try to smuggle themselves back into Belize. That is a very touchy situation. We have a high risk case right now in Corozal who apparently was in Chetumal of course illegally because the borders are close. That is a situation that we really need to take a grasp of. That should not be happening. Chetumal does not have that many cases. Their number is similar to what we have in Belize but the overall state in Quintana Roo particularly Cancun, Playa del Carmen areas have a significant and growing number of cases.”
