Don’t Let Your Guard Down! Stay COVID-19 Alert!
There was a sigh of relief on Tuesday evening when the Ministry of Health confirmed that three more persons have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the number of persons to beat the virus to nine. It has been more than two weeks since the last confirmed case of the deadly virus. While the fourteen-day quarantine is over, the State of Emergency has been extended for an additional sixty days, which means that several of the regulations are still in place. Today, however, in Belize City, there was a much greater presence of citizens on the streets conducting business. Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero made similar observations in his neck of the woods. He says that vast amounts of people were seen on the streets and vehicles were zooming on the highways. For Doctor Manzanero, this is alarming; he shared his concerns during the Ask the Experts webcast.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“I feel and the sense that we are getting from the health stand point is that this week people have been kind of being a little more relaxed in the attitude. This is the perception that we have. We are seeing a vast amount of people on the streets. We are suppose to be having essential services functional this week but we are not so sure if that is in point of fact that is happening. We are seeing around the parks, on the streets, along the highways, lots of cars on the highway now. That is getting us very nervous. And we feel that is a major cause of concern and certainly another headache as we move along.”
