Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund Donates $1.3 Million to the Ministry of Health
Lord Michael Ashcroft will be on Open Your Eyes this Thursday morning and we’ll hear from him on a wide range of issues, including the shocks caused by the novel coronavirus to the economy, investment and the country’s spiralling debt. Lord Ashcroft has also been assisting in the fight against COVID-19. Today, the Ministry of Health received a donation that will help build up its inventory to battle the COVID pandemic. Even though there have not been new cases in the past thirty days, a second and third wave pose a real threat to the country. This week, the Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund made a donation for the acquisition of medical supplies. The money is being used for fourteen ventilators already in the country as well as items such as P.P.E.s, medical goggles, medical shield masks, polymerase chain reaction system, and two housing units – all to a total cost of just under one point three million dollars. The P.P.E.s are on order and expected to land in Belize in the coming weeks. Chairman of the fund, Lyndon Guiseppi handed over a cheque to cover the costs of the ventilators to the Anna Bennett, Accountant General at the Treasury Department on Monday. A release states, “The donation of these items is part of the Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund’s commitment to support the ongoing efforts as of the Ministry of Health, the country and the people of Belize to ensure that we stay prepared for any impact from COVID-19.”
