Belizean Charged for Immigration Offense

A few minutes ago the Government issued a press release on the matter of the three Guatemalans who entered Belize illegal.  It confirms that the men were arrested at a checkpoint in Unitedville Village after they were entered the country illegally. The men were taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital to be swabbed for COVID-19 per the Ministry of Health’s protocol. The release also confirmed that the Guatemalans were taken to the western border where Immigration issued them an Order to Leave and ensured they went across the border. This is before the results returned positive.  The Guatemalan authorities were notified of the one positive result. The Belizean man remains in mandatory quarantine. Upon completion of quarantine, he will be charged by Immigration for harbouring illegal immigrants.
