Recently Diagnosed COVID-19 Patients Asymptomatic

As the numbers increase across the border, on Tuesday, Belize recorded four new COVID-19 cases. This brings the total number of active cases to eight—five females and three males.  According to Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero, the persons entered the country last week two came via the northern border, and the other two through the P.G.I.A.  They were swabbed last week Friday and have been placed on mandatory quarantine in Orange Walk Town and Belize City.  Like recent positive COVID-19 cases, these four patients are asymptomatic.  According to Doctor Manzanero, this is the second time that the country has recorded four cases of coronavirus in a day.

“Those samples were taken from last week but you know we only run samples routinely on Tuesdays and Fridays unless there is an extra batch then those are run alternate days but those samples were for the repatriation process, two people coming in through the northern border entry point and tw people of the flight.”

“They went in to hotel quarantine upon arrival as is the process, yes.”

“Two are in quarantine centers in Orange Walk and the others in Belize City?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Yes.  I guess it is alarming because we have never really had four cases except once on the Easter Monday as I recall come up in one single day. But there are still sporadic cases that are not tied necessarily with one another. Maybe the ones up north because they are members of one family so they are together.  Those two persons but it is not other than sporadic cases that you are identifying on an individual basis. Also when you look at total figures without getting into the details you realize we have seven active cases but then again they are not really related. This is the due process. This is what you expected to find out. This is what you prepared for. Fortunately none of these people, persons that have turned out to be reactive are symptomatic; they are not having any signs or symptoms of disease. So that is a plus.”
