Health Officials Inspect P.G.I.A.
A United Airline flight arrived today as part of the repatriation process which may lead to more cases of COVID 19. We say may because testing will confirm new cases. But the country’s fortieth case of the novel coronavirus was confirmed late on Thursday by Director of Health Services. In the latest case, the patient is an elderly female who entered Belize through the repatriation process. Due to her underlying heart conditions she is allowed to self quarantine at her home. Like many of the previous patients, this latest patient is asymptomatic. According to Manzanero, a further set of one hundred and nineteen samples were processed on Thursday, including samples obtained through the contact tracing done in Blue Creek. While all samples tested negative for the COVID-19 virus, ninety eight are under investigation. So far, more than two thousand seven hundred tests have been processed and many more are expected to be processed as more repatriation flights land. Rapid testing after the P.G.I.A. re-opens on August fifteen will confirm new cases and as such the proper protocols need to be put in place for the safety of frontline workers stationed at the P.G.I.A. Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero and his team today conducted a walkthrough at the P.G.I.A. to make sure that everything is in order.
One the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“The team today because of the amount of persons coming was made up of eleven persons that involved public health inspectors, nurses and three medical officers. We do our health component after we complete the swabbing and even sign the quarantine document then they go on to do immigration and customs. We had a meeting with customs officials on Tuesday t assure them of what their process to be. With immigration we consider that casual contact, minimal exposure there and they have alert as to what the process is and how to minimize their exposure. What I saw today was a pretty and smooth process.”
