More Police Officers Testing Positive for COVID-19
Another police officer tested positive for COVID-19 earlier today, joining a growing list of policemen to come down with the dreaded disease. Earlier, you heard one of the officers making a desperate plea to his colleagues. ComPol Williams has given all assurances that infected officers are being taken care of by the department. The commissioner also says that counseling has been made available to the officers to boost their morale.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We have one tested in Dangriga this morning, a positive. I have been in constant dialogue with Mr. Noble on the island. I was hoping to visit San Pedro today but I was advised not to, considering the current circumstances out there. But in the absence of me being able to go I remain in constant dialogue with Mr. Noble and I have also personally placed a call to every officer who has been infected and gave them the assurance that we stand with them and whatever it is that they may need to be able to overcome the virus that we are going to provide. I have instructed Mr. Noble to ensure that each of the officers who are on quarantine that we must give them their three meals a day and we are going to pay for that, so that the officers don’t have to be worrying about where to go and get food or what are they going to eat. So we will be able to ensure and provide their food for them. We also ensure that they get their water to time, we ensure that whatever medication they need, that we get it for them and we have also made arrangements for Mr. Vargas for them from the Employment Assistance Program to provide counseling for them and I believe that they had that first session today virtually.”
