COVID-19 Cases Go Up by 86!

The coronavirus continues to spread at an alarming rate. The highest number of new cases was recorded on Wednesday night at a whopping eighty-six, which show that the uncontrollable virus is jumping into villages in the north and south as it maintains a foothold in San Pedro where the largest number of cases is registered. The latest count before this newscast puts the total number of cases for the country at a total of two hundred and ninety-six. Of that number, two hundred and sixty-two are active cases spread across the country. Based on the data; San Pedro remains the epicentre with forty-one new cases bringing the total to one hundred and thirty-two for the island of Ambergris Caye. Alarmingly, there are twenty-eight new cases in Orange Walk; most of these are related to a construction site in San Pedro, which is one of the three identified clusters on the island. The villages in the Orange Walk District that have at least one case are: Douglas, San Jose, Trial Farm, San Estevan, Yo Creek, Guinea Grass, San Pablo and August Pine Ridge.  Stann Creek District is now recording new eight cases; while two are from previous cases, six are imported cases. On Tuesday, the island of Caye Caulker recorded its first case and in less than twenty-four hours, two additional cases were identified; we will have details from those cases later in the newscast. Corozal is also recording one case and Belize City has six additional cases. The Ministry of Health continues with contact tracing and Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero today told News Five that there are hundreds of samples that are being processed and the results of those tests will be made public later today via its daily infographic. The spread across district lines is matter of concern to authorities and the public. So far, only the Toledo District has not recorded any case during this time.
