Alfred Usher Says He Did Not Contraband Cigarettes
As you know, border jumpers are being held responsible in large part for the spread of the corona virus and the law is coming down heavy on them. Fifty-six-year-old Alfred Usher was arrested by Orange Walk Police after he was caught with contraband cigarettes. Police say that four packs of Sunny brand cigarettes were found in his possession. The brand is sold at the Corozal Free Zone and as such Usher was placed at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex under mandatory quarantine. He says he tested positive for COVID-19 when he was first swabbed. It’s been eighteen days that he is in quarantine and Usher wants to know why he has not been released since the last two tests were negative.
Alfred Usher, Quarantined
“I took three tests, two of them negative and I am still sitting down in here. They don’t want to release me. The police man doesn’t want to release. There are people who do thirteen days quarantine and I am negative and I am still here.”
Hipolito Novelo
“You say you have been in there for eighteen days?”
Alfred Usher
“Eighteen days and they don’t want to release me none at all. They don’t want to release and they are talking about police man charging me. Police cannot charge me. It is customs that.”
Hipolito Novelo
“I think you are supposed to be charged for border jumping.”
Alfred Usher
“No border jumping. They found me in Orange Walk and the thing came from Free Zone. It was in a lot. So I so win that cause because they don’t have anything on me. They can’t charge me something in a lot.”
Hipolito Novelo
“The police say that you were found with four packs of Sunny brand cigarettes in your possession.”
Alfred Usher
“It was not in my possession. It was on the ground. I plead not guilty.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Did you cross that border?”
Alfred Usher
“No. I didn’t cross the border.”
Hipolito Novelo
“How did you received the contraband?”
Alfred Usher
“They don’t charge, I contradict myself. It was not on me. It was on the ground.”
Hipolito Novelo
“But you came in contact with that contraband.”
Alfred Usher
“Yes, but you are trying to judge me.”
