Update on COVID-19 Cases; 6 Hospitalized
As you may know by now, those thirty-four new cases were preceded by another twenty-three cases on Monday. Those results show that fourteen cases were recorded in the Belize District, six of which are in San Pedro. Four were recorded in the Cayo district, three of whom are healthcare workers in Belmopan. These healthcare workers are directly involved in contact tracing. Four more are in Corozal and one in Orange Walk.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“The numbers from yesterday, I can tell you that some of those had been tested from the Sunday. We included those yesterday – a total of one hundred and sixty four samples. It included three of our contract tracing team at the Western Regional Hospital. We said that from Sunday. I know that there was some concern whether patients would be exposed through that mechanism but these are not persons who are seeing patient or are routinely in the hospital setting. These are persons doing the contact tracing and mapping exercise on the ground. We had a further six cases in San Pedro – as I had said as we move along we will be shifting how and which persons we are going to be testing as go forth in San Pedro; one in Orange Walk and four in Corozal; four in Cayo but that includes four from Belmopan including the ones from health and eight in Belize City. Hospitalized cases – six patients are hospitalized at Karl Heusner; three are intubated and those three are females. Three are with different levels of respiratory distress but the note that I got from the C.E.O. at Karl Heusner earlier is that if they continue with that positive evolution, they should be discharged during the course of the week and one person is being discharged today.”
