Belmopan City Council Precautionary Measures Against COVID-19

Khalid Belisle

A number of employees from the Belmopan City Council have been sent home to self-isolate as a result of a COVID-19 threat.  While at this point, there is no positive case among the staff, as a measure of precautionary measure to protect its employees and staff, sent staff members home to isolate. According to Mayor Khalid Belisle, a couple employees came in contact with a person who recently tested positive for COVID-19. Those employees have been swabbed and awaiting their results.

Khalid Belisle, Belmopan Mayor

“One of our employees had come forward to say to our Human Resources manager to say that one of his colleagues of the B.D.F. volunteer elements here in Belmopan had tested positive for COVID-19 and himself and another one of our workers had been exposed to this person over the course of the past two weeks. And he felt it necessary for us to know because he had been on at work over that period of time. It was then that we started to make our own in-house assessment as to who it was that he had been in contact with over the past few days and that’s when we made the decision to start asking specific staff and workers to go home and self-isolate for a period of time; currently we are looking at two weeks, just until those tests results from those two employees can come back. I think they got swabbed yesterday and we are told that they should get their results sometime on Friday or Saturday. As best I can tell, we don’t have any positively confirmed cases here at the city council, but trying to err on the side of caution and ensure that we keep our employees and the general public as safe as possible, we decided to implement these measures.”
