Mexican Ambassador Bids Farewell to Belize

On Tuesday, Foreign Affairs Minister Wilfred Elrignton met with Mexican Ambassador Carlos Quesnel Melendez, presenting him with the Key of Friendship in honour of his professional and personal accomplishments. Outgoing Ambassador Quesnel has been in Belize for five years and has been actively working on successfully achieving objectives and registering tremendous progress in the bilateral relations between Belize and Mexico. Appointed Ambassador to Belize on February fifth, 2015, Ambassador Quesnel is also the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. He will be concluding his mission in Belize next month but before he leaves, Quesnel spoke to News Five about his accomplishments.

“Certainly when I came to this country I knew exactly what I had to do because I understood as many colleagues from Mexican government, the importance as a partner for Belize. So as soon as I arrived I started to do after the legal framework and it was very important because I would say that we worked very hard with the Belize Government to try to have the different issues and we could sign the first visit of Belize’s Minster of Foreign Affairs to Mexico, eight agreements from air transport, climate change, navigation missions, energy, intellectual property, social security, environment protection and consumer rights protection. We continue working on updating the legal framework. I would say we would have a lot of success in updating the legal framework. But we are still working on some very important agreement. The one that is still pending and I think is the most important one is the partial scope agreement. As you know partners, as neighbors and as nations we have to look for new ways to promote investment,  more trade more commerce.”
