52 New COVID-19 Cases; 17 Recovered

The numbers show that the new cases are trending up. Fifty-two new COVID-19 cases were recorded overnight, taking the number of confirmed cases up to one thousand nine hundred and forty-three. Those new cases were identified from a batch of two hundred and twenty-four samples that were processed on Tuesday. More than half of the new cases, twenty-seven to be exact, are from Orange Walk, nine in Belize District, eight in Cayo, seven in Corozal and one in Toledo. There are now six hundred and ninety-two active cases and one thousand two hundred and twenty-five recovered cases. According to Doctor Marvin Manzanero, there are some expected spikes in numbers due to reckless activities that were held by residents during the tenth and twenty-first holidays which are only now manifesting.

“We are noting a particular trend of increasing numbers. But beyond the increasing numbers we are also doing it based on positive cases given the amount of samples we process every day. So yesterday you saw more than fifty cases, particularly out in Orange Walk. In the communities that we had noted some weeks ago, is that there is still movement in rural communities that have big families or communities where the mask wearing and physical distancing is being kept at all times. The tendency that we note is that some people around their family would still let their guard down. We would also have to find out if this is following any event that people may have been having around September tenth and of course September twenty-first which is nine ten days ago. You would recall that we had also said that we could have anticipated that if we continue with socialization elements that we would have expected a spike two weeks after September tenth. We kinda saw some of it after the long weekend of Independence Day weekend, we would have anticipated a spike in the first week of October.”
