It’s Mental Health Month
Healthy Choices, Healthy People, Healthy Body, Healthy Mind; it’s the theme for mental health awareness during this month. Annually, October tenth is recognised as World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day, so the Welcome Resource Center and the Mental Health Association will be organizing several events during this month to generate much need funds to assist those persons they serve who are afflicted with a mental health condition. From a T-shirt sale to a telethon and even drop-off stations for food items – there is a wide range of activities happening in this first week of October.
Joyce Ellis, Administrator, Welcome Resource Centre
“Around this time, we usually have our night of being homeless, but due to the condition of the pandemic, it is something that we can’t have. So we are still asking persons to purchase the shirt, take pictures, send it in to us and we will post it throughout the month on our page. We usually have our annual banquet. We can’t have our banquet again because of COVID-19 so we are having a telethon this Saturday; it will be streamed live on our Facebook page. We are asking people to bring in your pledges, call in, pledge in for us. Every little counts. Don’t feel as if though you are calling and only pledging twenty-five, thirty dollars that you don’t want to call in. Call in with your pledges; one-one okro full di basket. Besides that, Duane, we also launched earlier this year our Facebook friends where we are asking all the persons who are friends with us on Facebook to give us five dollars monthly and that’s sixty dollars a year. We are asking that this continues.”
