Can Tony Herrera Win Corozal Southeast for U.D.P.?
U.D.P. Standard Bearer Tony Herrera is running in the Corozal Southeast constituency, but is presently sick with COVID-19. His wife is also hospitalized after having contracted the disease. So how will this most unfortunate development affect his chances in a constituency that has traditionally remained a P.U.P. stronghold? According to the new party leader, Herrera has a very good chance of unseating Florencio Marin Junior in that constituency, despite the odds being stacked against him.
Patrick Faber, U.D.P. Leader Elect
“I have not experienced any symptoms and so that‘s the advice, but I have tried to be very conservative in terms of my own movements, I have expressed to you that I have tried to do my best to stay clear of situations, although you will see that even when you do that, things can creep up on you. I sent a message out to all of my candidates for instance, earlier this week when Tony messaged to say that he was positive. We have to be careful, and it does add a damper on the campaign. This is probably the best opportunity we will ever have from all our stabs at it over history to win. Tony has a very good chance of winning.”

“I don‘t see that but…”

“Let me attribute that to you so that when it happens I can say that you were prophetic. I think that that’s a division that really we can win and I think it would be an honest assessment to say that contracting COVID has put a damper on the campaign, and it is not only that but his wife, of course, as you know, is very ill. I think she has a precondition and so it is a very trying time for him, I suspect mentally as well.”
