1134 Positive Cases; Confirmed Cases Soar to 3145

There are currently, one thousand one hundred and thirty-four active COVID cases as confirmed cases soared pass the three thousand mark over the weekend. Over the past two days, some five hundred and ninety-three samples were processed of which ninety-five returned positive. So, thirty-six point one percent of the total number of confirmed cases remain active at this time. The highest numbers were recovered in the northern districts of Corozal and Orange Walk and the rate of infection is between fifteen to twenty percent. But DHS Manzanero says there is concern over spikes in the Old Capital.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“The numbers have not really gone down. I think the lab has been working, I would say tirelessly, to try to keep up with all the samples that are coming. I think through the weekend they had more than five hundred samples that arrived even though they had cleared a good amount. Just last week, I think they had more than two thousand two hundred samples processed with a record number being set last week Thursday. So as long as you get the numbers, you are going to start having those cases. We are having between fifteen to twenty percent rates in terms of people that are turning out positive, primarily in Corozal and Orange Walk, but now spikes in Belize City that can be linked to the north.”

Over the weekend, eighty-nine patients recovered from the virus and there are now a total of one thousand nine hundred and sixty-one recovered patients.
