85-Year-Old Man Also Dies from COVID; Deaths Now at 50
In addition to the death of six-year-old Arturo Godoy Junior, a man in his eighties, also from Orange Walk, died due to complications associated with COVID-19. This brings the total number of deaths to fifty, since the virus was first detected in Belize, and the fatality rate to one point five-nine percent. Doctor Marvin Manzanero spoke to News Five about the two deaths recorded over the weekend.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“The one on Saturday was our first paediatric death; a six-year-old from Orange Walk, from the north, referred to Karl Heusner and the second case was yesterday; an eighty-five year old male who died in Orange Walk yesterday.”

“This brings the total to fifty.”
Dr. Marvin Manzanero
“Fifty with the majority of them being males, almost a two to one ratio now.”
Duane Moody
“Talk to us about that trend that we are seeing?”
Dr. Marvin Manzanero
“Yeah. I mean I don’t know that we have a straight answer as to why more males seem to be dying as a result because when you look at total figures of cases it’s not really a two to one ratio, but deaths are two to one and males are also more likely to be also hospitalized. So I don’t know that we have a straight answer in terms of why more males are dying.”
