M.O.H. to Meet with W.R.H. to Determine What Happened in Edin Requena’s Death
The Ministry of Health is looking into the allegation of negligence at the Western Regional Hospital that has left twenty-three-year-old Edin Requeña dead. As we reported on Tuesday, Requeña was involved in an accident on the George Price Highway and was taken to the Western Regional Hospital for treatment. But according to Requeña’s brother, in about three hours or so he was released without proper observation or medical tests. Requeña reportedly complained that he didn’t feel well, but the doctor dismissed his concerns as bruises and scratches and about two hours later, he died. Today, we asked the Director of Health Services about what’s being done to look into this case.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“We got a preliminary report. Deputy Director, Doctor Morey is going to go and have a sit down with the team from Western Regional to determine further details of the report other than what was reported to find out what exactly happened – from when he arrived; how he was treated; the people who may have interacted with him and who made the decision to discharge the patient.”

“Any meeting with the family at this point, doc?”
Dr. Marvin Manzanero
“From headquarters, no. I believe the regional management team would have to do that in the first instance because they are the immediate care providers and I have not gotten a note that they would have reached out to the family as yet.”
Andrea Polanco
“When more or less would we have an update or any further clarification on this case?”
Dr. Marvin Manzanero
“I think that by tomorrow mid-day we should have a note. I was alerted that there is going to be an intention for this to be a legal situation, that we may be, as a Ministry of Health, facing. If that were the case, then I believe we wouldn’t be able to provide more information.”
