Four COVID-19 Patients Intubated
According to Doctor Manzanero, there are currently four intubated patients at K.H.M.H.’s COVID I.C.U. unit. He says that the private sector has two confirmed cases hospitalized, including one of the ministry’s health care workers. He says that there is a highly suspect case at a private institution in Belize City, also intubated. The ministry is monitoring hospitalization rates closely as the numbers at K.H.M.H. have remained constant and there are currently thirteen confirmed cases hospitalized.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“The Northern Regional Hospital has two moderately ill patients hospitalize. The Western Region has three hospitalized patients. One is a suspect case, the other two are confirmed. Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga has three, one is a suspect and the other two would have been confirmed case. Corozal has four moderately hospitalized cases and one suspect case. The Karl Heusner one which is the one we also monitor is terms how we are able to manage with the patients that are being referred to them. They have twelve confirmed cases, Karl Heusner does, three of those twelve are confirmed, are on ventilators, four of those are on what you call high flow of trans-nasal cannula. So that is seven and five are on supplementary oxygen. Aside from these twelve patients, there are eight persons under investigation at Karl Heusner. So there are twenty patients and the area we had assigned specifically was going to max out at twenty-eight. Throughout the weekend we had twenty-three cases at Karl Heusner. So one patient is being referred back to the Southern Regional Hospital to continue with their therapy. This was a patient who had been intubated and had been successfully extubated. So this would have been the second extubated patient we have had so far.”
