Update on Acquiring COVID-19 Vaccine in Belize
There were zero COVID-19 deaths recorded over the weekend, and today the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported three deaths from Covid-19. The recent statistics show the daily positivity rate trending downwards and a slight improvement in the cumulative positivity rate. The Ministry of Health and Wellness has embarked on a number of campaigns to assist persons with compliance to safety measures. Today, Minister Michel Chebat also gave an update on a timeline for acquiring the COVID-19 vaccine, which he says should be about thirty percent of the total population sometime within the first quarter of this year.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Tourism & Wellness
“We signed on to the COVAX facility and we are still in discussion with PAHO to determine exactly which vaccine will be coming into the country. They have said to us in the first quarter of this year we are to receive it, but we are still waiting to see exactly which date it will be arriving and which one. We have paid for thirty percent so far, but we are not sure yet if we are going to be receiving the thirty percent at this time, this is still being worked out through PAHO.”
