Briceño Wants Teachers Vaccinated to Open Schools Safely

John Briceño

As the Prime Minister explained, the challenge would be getting the vaccines here from Barbados, but when it does, who will get it first? It is only a thousand vaccines, and frontline workers will be prioritized. The country is still waiting to receive its shipment of vaccines under the COVAX facility. PM Briceño says that the goal is to have enough people vaccinated by September. And to safely re-open schools, Briceño is considering administering the vaccines to teachers as one of the priority groups.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Our aim is by September enough people have been vaccinated. The teachers have been vaccinated so that we could look at opening up the schools, safely. We cannot continue to have our children out of school and one of the decision questions that we have been making and I have spoken to the Minister of Health. Actually I must give credit where it comes from, the Special Envoy. Rossana told me is you want to open schools safely vaccinate the teachers. I think it is a great idea and I think she will be discussing that with the Ministry of Education. We will push that the teachers get vaccinated early so that we can open schools safely.”
