1000 Barbados Vaccines Arrive in Belize

As promised, the donation of one thousand vaccines from Barbados arrived in Belize today via Amerijet just after seven this morning.  The shipment was received by the former Acting DHS, Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa.  These vaccines are not a part of the one hundred thousand plus to be acquired via the COVAX facility, expected in late March or early April.  Maternal and Child Health Technical Advisor for the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Doctor Natalia Largaespada Beer says the initial doses arriving today will be given to front-liners from COVID-19 units across the country.

“We have a total of five thousand healthcare workers, private and public sector and we definitely will start with the first target group which is the healthcare workers. We don’t have enough for all; we know that, so we will start with those working in the COVID-19 units and at the flu clinics, coming in contact with patients every day that may have or have COVID-19. We are starting with five hundred persons because one thousand doses represent five hundred persons receiving first and second dose. So we will start with the first five hundred and that will start Monday next week.”
