Coach Dale Pelayo is Happy with Belize Vs Haiti Score!
As you know by now, the Belize Jaguars lost their match against Haiti by two-nil. So, on Saturday, the coaching staff and two members held a zoom interview with the media to discuss the results of the match and how they intend to move on from the loss. Reporter Andrea Polanco joined the virtual discussion over the weekend where she spoke with Coach Dale Pelayo.
Dale Pelayo, Coach, Belize Jaguars
“Going into this game with Haiti we knew it was going to be difficult. We knew what we were going. It wasn’t an easy game. Haiti is ranked best team in the Caribbean and so we knew exactly what we were going up against. We wanted the team to focus on a defensive game which we were very disciplined defensively. We allowed to set pieces to score but that is football. But offensively it took away from our game. We asked Deon to focus more a little defensively to help in the middle of the field with Jordy. Offensively we wanted Angelo to play wide which he did but our game plan was to remain focus defensively for the first fifteen to thirty minutes of the game which we did. Offensively it took away from our game and we wanted our offensive to come through the midfield – Jordy Polanco – and it didn’t happen. We had some advance offensively. Jordy tried his best but he was pounded a lot in the middle of the field but that is football and I, as the coach, am happy with the result we got. We didn’t win the game but it shows where Belize is at in football. We must remember that coming out here we only had twenty-eight days to put this team in some sort of game preparation and that is not enough time. And we weren’t playing no football in Belize for almost a year and so the result for me as the coach – I am happy and satisfied. It is not what we wanted but we are focused on what is our objective. So, come the next game we will go out and we know what we need to do is to be disciplined offensively, stay focused defensively and so that will be our game coming up the next game.”
“What kind of game you are anticipating from Turks and Caicos?”
Dale Pelayo
“Well, I anticipate that they will come out. They want to win the game as well. This is the World Cup qualifier – this is for everything. I am not taking them lightly. We are going to stay focused and concentrate on the game and play our game plan and remain all confident that when we go on the pitch it is for nothing less than three points.”
