Belize Jaguars Blow Out Turks & Caicos

The Belize Jaguars triumphed this afternoon by trouncing Turks and Caicos with a final score of five-nil in the second World Cup qualifier being played by our men’s national team.  Two goals were scored by forward Carlos Garcia, while Jesse August, Deshawon Nembhard and Deon McCaulay scored one goal apiece.  Today’s victory keeps the Jaguars’ chances of advancing to another round of football competition alive, after falling to Haiti last week in an inaugural match.  Following the match, Jaguars Head Coach Dale Pelayo spoke with the media.

Dale Pelayo, Head Coach, Belize Jaguars

“I am happy.  As I said from the last [interview] in Haiti that we’re going to rebound.  I was confident in my team and I know what we were capable of doing offensively and so I promised each and everyone that Belize would have come out today and played the way how we trained to play; position football and holding on to the ball, creating a lot of opportunities and that’s exactly what we did today.  Be patient, most of all.  The country hasn’t been playing ball for a whole year and we went into that Haiti game.  It was our first match for over a year, but like the coach said, we stuck to our game plan, we regrouped the team and everybody came back for this Turks and Caicos game and we went out there and we did a great showing and I am very happy with, like the coach said, the younger players.  They really came in and made an instant impact on the game and that helped us a lot.  So I think the team will be ready in June for that game in Nicaragua, we just have to continue working and keep focused and hopefully the league starts so that the players are playing and they are in game shape.”
