Vaccine to Expire at End of May, Get Jab Now

During our interview with Doctor Beer, she did confirm that at the end of the month of May, the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine expires. This increases the urgency for why persons who fall within the opened vaccination phases should come out and get their jabs. But Doctor Beer says that the ministry is working strategically to increase deployment to vaccination centers across the country.

“It’s not that there is a bunch of vaccines there that will expire. The vaccines that we are providing currently expires end of May this year. So we have enough time to get those vaccines in arms and we are confident that this week we have seen a low but a lot is ongoing on our side, the supplies side, and I guess it is influencing the demand side also. So we just have to be cognizant of the context in which we are working correctly. So we hope to have a better situation next week that will help us to increase our deployment to the rural communities, our deployment to several vaccination sites in a given day and not just one to facilitate the population to get aces to the vaccines.”

The next shipment of vaccines through the COVAX facility is expected to arrive in Belize at the end of May. According to Doctor Beer, those vaccines are coming from Italy.
